Mel Gibson: Not Very Christ-Like

Note to any Christians out there: Do not defend Mel Gibson for any of his derogatory comments and don’t confuse an actor who made a movie about  Christ with Christ himself. I may not be a Christian, but I am pretty sure that if there is a holy trinity, Mel Gibson has absolutely no part in it.

Of course, you might not want to listen to me, so I’ll offer you an alternative. If Stephen Baldwin is not your choice as a bad boy poster child for the Christian right, maybe Mel Gibson can still be your man. He’s got a lot going for him: a great butt, film credits that include everything from Mel as a Patriot to the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and now a reputation for language that is definitely R-Rated for profanity, racism, and misogyny.

As TMZ recently reported, Mel Gibson actually, “hurled the N-Word” at the mother of his child. I hate to repeat what his words verbatim because they were offensive to both women and minorities at the same time. Way to kill two birds with one stone, Mel. What exactly were his words of wisdom?

"You look like a f*king pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of ni**ers it will be your fault."

Nice job, Mel. Not did  you embarrass and humiliate the mother of your child, I’m sure you lost some credibility with your supporters- Christians and Heathens alike. You sound like a Gangsta rapper instead of a Christian man noted for playing Christ himself.  I can’t be alone in thinking that this was probably not the most Christ-like “statement” you have made in your life and unfortunately, I am also confident that it will not be your last.

For those keeping track, this is not the first time that Mel has spewed a racial epitaph- when he was arrested for drunk driving in 2006, Mel tried to blame the Jews for everything. I am not quite clear how the Jews were responsible for his DUI- perhaps he was drinking with some famous Jewish Hollywood mogul before he got arrested? Others were unsure how a few shots turned the actor into an ant-semite and didn’t feel that his apologies were genuine.

Toyota Is Back!

Remember the Toyota Motor Corp?

BP kicked Toyota off America's S-List. The Shucks what the heck list Yeah!

Toyota was out there with cars that they knew were killing people, and Toyota kept quiet about the problem for their customers, until the bodies and the law suits kept piling up, and piled up so high that the problem became a problem for Toyota, a problem the company couldn't continue to ignore. Toyota recalled lots of killer cars. Then BP popped its bad old head up, with a mega oil spill, which isn't an oil spill but an oil kill. It is killing the Gulf eco-system and is continuous, an on-going problem.. BP's dirty deeds knocked Toyota off the front page and out of the news. Toyota is making a sort of a comeback -- in the news anyway.. It's is recalling 270,000 vehicles worldwide, 137,000 vehicles in the U.S, starting Monday, to fix an engine problem. The engine could stall while the vehicle is moving. Any driver can imagine the traffic problems that could cause.Toyota is reminding us all why America needs regulators to keep an alert eye on big business.

LeBron James

What is America buzzing about this morning? LeBron James, the two-time NBA MVP, who was / is with the the Cleveland Cavaliers, has been with that team since turning pro directly out of high school seven years ago. This morning, Thursday, at 12:01 a.m., LeBron became a free agent  He is considered to be the most desirable free agent in NBA history. America has been buzzing about Mr. James for days. Now it's wait and see as to where will he go and how much dough will be pocketed. How many millions? Will it be double digit millions or triple digits? Speculation is a hot topic in the regular sports media and in the social media.

Quote New Jersey Nets president Rod Thorn, with one of the teams hoping to sign LeBron -- "We've never had anything like this in my time that I can remember. There have been big-time free agents before, but never this many teams that are trying to woo them. So it's unprecedented."

Cleveland, wants to keep him, the Nets want him, and are going to try to get him, so will the Knicks, the Heat, the Chicago Bulls, the LAs Clippers, and every body who has the cheese to pay.

LeBron is hot and its more than just hype. He is a great ball player or teams wouldn't be knocking his door down, yelling for him to come and get their money.

Larry King Show Going Bye, Bye

Good times Larry.

Yesterday, Larry King announced that he is retiring this fall from his 25 year old show on CNN. Yes, Larry's ratings were dropping. But after twenty five years, how long is one supposed to sit on top of the world? I liked what Larry King did. I liked his TV and his radio shows. I liked his cameos in those movies of the past. Larry King, a recognizable American, Mr Normal, an icon, for those summer movie in which little was normal.

Larry King says he's stepping down, but not stepping out, that he will be sticking around for specials, --  or for when something from a fantastic summer movie really occurs, and good old Larry King can come on the screen and say something like, "America, these men from outer space, I shall interview them tonight, right here. We are going to find out what they're up to. Stay tune."

Chris Brown Does It

The morning buzz is crazy about the Chris Brown's performance at BET Awards 2010, that aired aired live last night, Sunday. Chris Brown rocked. He channeled Michael Jackson, in the best performance tribute to Michael thus far. Chris Brown struck all the cords. Michael Jackson died a year ago, fans were pumped -- Chris Brown made moves like Michael -- moonwalked, like the late King of the Pop, to the song, “Billie Jean”. This was an emotional performance that will be talked about for a while. When Chris Brown sung Michael Jackson's song, “Man In The Mirror,” Chris Brown teared. His voice cracked. If he was faking it, he is a better performer than many would give him credit for. He came across doing a genuine tribute. He may have begun to win hip hop America back, after his shameful mistreatment of Rihanna, that led to his plead to felony assault, and got him labeled not a fav by many fans.

Last night, he did well.

McDowell Is the Winner

What is happening to golf when the big names, (Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els), come up flat and short, and the new guy, (Graeme McDowell), wins? The backroom bookies are at work? No. The TV elves are juicing up the drama to keep things exciting? Nope. So what's the answer?

When the veterans fall part and a rookie steps up to take the roar of the crowd, the veterans are trying to hard, second guessing themselves. Tiger is trying too hard to beat Jack Nicklaus's record. Phil Mickelson is trying too hard to get out of the Tiger's shadow. A win at the Open would have meant that he would have finally stepped up into the light himself. Ernie Els was trying too hard to beat both Tiger and Mickelson, and all three of these very good and veteran golfers finished the day by beating themselves.

Don't want to take anything from the winner, Mr. McDowell, because to keep ones head, to stick to ones game, while others are losing their heads and their game, is an achievement, and to win the US Open, a major golf tournament, is something for the memoirs.

Manute Bol, RIP

Manute Bol, humanitarian, great defensive basketball player, who I enjoyed watching play, rest in peace. You departed too soon.

Manute Bol was once billed as the tallest men ever to play for the NBA. He stood 7 feet 6 inches, his shoe size was 16 ½ , his heart size was about the biggest in the world. He died, yesterday, Saturday, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, from severe kidney trouble and complications of a rare skin disorder. He was only forty seven.

Manute Bol was an immigrant from the Sudan. He was a great defensive player in the NBA for ten seasons. He played for the Washington Bullets, later for the Golden State Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat. He is being remembered as a humanitarian, who provided aid to his native Sudan. He returned to Sudan regularly during his playing days, donating his money for school construction, and other worthy projects. Once he retired, he became more active there. He went to Sudan late last year to check on humanitarian ventures. He was a man who gave back as well as received the bounties of life.

Manute Bol, RIP

Golf = Tiger Woods

AssociatedPress -- "Tiger Woods makes a third round charge at U.S. Open to put himself in position to challenge at Pebble Beach. Dustin Johnson is the leader through 54 holes, three shots ahead of Graeme McDowell and five better than Woods." See the video.

Golf for at least this year and maybe for the foreseeable future will be Tiger Woods and those other guys. Whether the Tiger walks away the winner or not, as long as he is close, there will be nobody ready and able to take his title, as the world champion box office draw. Phil, what's his name, has the opportunity to take Tiger's title as the number golfer in the world, according to the stats. Phil -- his name slips me -- has been winning tournaments and the Tiger hasn't. But so far, at Pebble Beach, golfer Phil is back in the pack and he is not expected to be a factor at the US Open. And the tongues were saying that if Phil won this one, he would win Tiger's title.

After playing poorly, trailing badly, on day one and two of the US Open, and hearing the tongues wag that the Tiger is beginning to lose his stuff, yesterday, on day three, the Tiger got his mojo back. He is still trailing the leaders, but he's in the competition. The Tiger surges and that is enough juice for the fans to have hope.

Beer Pong? A sport?

From the Associated Press,  June 17, 2010  -- "What started out as a drinking game, beer pong has blossomed into a nationwide competition and a $25,000 first prize, all for doing what millions of college kids do when they should be studying.." See the video.

A beer pong championship? Excuse me -- the world beer pong championship? Yeah! This dorm game has gotten serious. 350 teams in the competition. $250K in prize money. $25k top prize. And it was hosted for the second year in a row in in Atlantic City? Where else? The casinos need to draw people.

Brian Cahill.spokesman for the Resorts Hotel, host casino joint said, "Not only did it generate hotel room sales and food and beverage revenue, but it gave Resorts additional exposure in the media, brought energy and excitement to the hotel and casino, and it introduced many new people to the property."

I wonder what will be the next big sport? Booger digging?

Kennedy's FBI Files

The FBI under the Freedom of Information Act released some of its files on the late Edward Kennedy, the long serving member of the Senate, considered the most effective senator ever. He is a historic figure. He was a leading voice for American liberalism, and as such was never popular with the right-wing. One right-wing newsletter this morning, after scanning over the files, focused on what they could find that gave a voyeur's glimpse of Mr. Kennedy's private life, and the morning right-wing electronic acid sheet concluded that the great man was a man-whore, a man who slept around, who drank too much and who enjoyed the company of two many women.

The files the FBI released yesterday on Edward Kennedy dealt mainly with threats on his life. Mr. Kennedy was a magnet for all kinds of kooks, malcontents, nuts and insane persons who wanted to do him harm. Besides reporting on the many threats against Mr. Kennedy, others are pulling from the files, for what ever reason, the bile that they can to make a headline that can drive a story, that can draw eyeballs to themselves and to their output. Why? To carry on a political assassination of the man in the grave? To toss dirt on his reputation?

In the play Julius Caesar, a great man has been assassinated. Shakespeare wrote these lines for his character Mark Anthony to deliver at the funeral -- "The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with --."

In this case let it be with Mr. Kennedy. It is left to those among us who remember the good that Mr Kennedy did, to remember him for the good that he did.
