Golf for at least this year and maybe for the foreseeable future will be Tiger Woods and those other guys. Whether the Tiger walks away the winner or not, as long as he is close, there will be nobody ready and able to take his title, as the world champion box office draw. Phil, what's his name, has the opportunity to take Tiger's title as the number golfer in the world, according to the stats. Phil -- his name slips me -- has been winning tournaments and the Tiger hasn't. But so far, at Pebble Beach, golfer Phil is back in the pack and he is not expected to be a factor at the US Open. And the tongues were saying that if Phil won this one, he would win Tiger's title.
After playing poorly, trailing badly, on day one and two of the US Open, and hearing the tongues wag that the Tiger is beginning to lose his stuff, yesterday, on day three, the Tiger got his mojo back. He is still trailing the leaders, but he's in the competition. The Tiger surges and that is enough juice for the fans to have hope.
